Boat Park
Thank you to everyone that has complied with club rules and bye-laws and paid the registration fee and applied the current sticker. It is taking time to work through the audit but emails and letters are gradually going out to members with boats at the club not registered and to lapsed members who need to remove their boats.
Sewage
Our sewage pumping station has clogged up 3 times recently. It costs a lot to have it cleared. Please only put paper and “what goes through you” down the loo – no wet wipes nappies or sanitary towels.
Sailing
A breezy weekend for the Feva Inlands at Chew, several of our youngsters were taking part. Have a look on the website for the report.
The fabulously piratical family regatta, 7th July, is fast approaching. We’d like to invite very new members to it, some of whom are non-sailors. Volunteers are needed to take them for a short sail or even round the island. Regatta programme here.
Chew Valley Recreational Trail

“We wish to advise you that in partnership with BANES Council, Bristol Water, Mendip AONB, Natural England, West of England Rural Network (WERN), Sustrans have been developing proposals for a traffic free walking and cycling route around Chew Valley Lake. It is the intention of the partnership that this new facility is an asset to the whole local community, and it is one of the aspirations of the Chew Valley and Stowey Sutton Neighbourhood Plans.
The route has been developed in consultation with known local landowners and takes account of numerous constraints related to conservation of the protected lakeside species and habitats within the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Protected Area (SPA).
We are aiming to submit a funding application for £1 million from the Rural Development Program Fund in September. The partnership is now able to publicise information regarding the proposals and have submitted a planning application to the local authority ahead of this funding deadline.
The partnership would like to invite you find out more at a community consultation event on June 28th at 4.00 – 7.30, in the Children’s Centre of Chew Valley School. Members of the project team will be on hand to talk about the proposals and refreshments will be provided.”
Rob Mitchell and I met with Steve Smith from Bristol Water last week to look at the proposed route in the planning application and to discuss implications for the club. We will of course welcome comments from members to inform our response to the planning application. The application has not yet appeared on the BANES website but should do soon.
