The Bristol Brew is a Universities Team racing event hosted annually by Bristol University sailing Club. This is what happened.
On 30th November, 21 teams of 6 sailors, some university and some alumni teams, arrived at Chew Valley Sailing Club for the Bristol Brew 2013. The wind built up from 2kts to a lovely 8-10kts which made the racing perfect. Unfortunately it started to die off around 2pm but we still managed to fit in 72 races out of the scheduled 105 for the weekend. However, on Sunday 1st December there was not the same good fortune as the lake became a mirror and racing had to be cancelled at 11am which was beneficial for some of the further teams such as Durham University who had a long journey home.
The racing was very close with 3 teams on 100% wins and so it had to come down to average points. Spinnaker Auspicious won, with second Itchenor Sonicboom and in third place Bristol Red with 6.77. The weekend worked out brilliantly with many thanks to Chew Valley Sailing Club for allowing us to host it, the umpires for judging, Martin Smethers, the Race Officer for managing to get the maximum races out of the wind conditions and the race committee for helping.
