Sailing Report – Helen Martin, Vice Commodore
There has been a flurry of events to tempt Chew sailors to travel: RS 100 nationals on the Solent, RS200 and 100 open at Starcross, the Flying Fifteen nationals and the RYA SW Zone championships. Apologies if I have missed an event.
Well done to Flying Fifteen maestros Ian Cadwallader and Dave Sweet, 3 race wins and 4th overall at the nationals in Falmouth – tremendous.
There was a good Chew turnout for the zone championships. Giles Griffiths and Ed Neylan flew the flag in the Topper fleet. Congratulations to the whole Chew Feva Squad. Rosie and Susie finished as second all girls in only their second event. Alfie and Ben made the top 10, also their second event together. Ted & Rupert were 1 step off the podium in 4th. And Quinn & Fin took the trophy and are the RYA South & South-West Zone Feva champions for 2017. Great to see the hard work and training at Chew paying off for them all.
Last weekend we hosted SW Topper training and the Topper Open, 38 and 31 boats respectively. There was lots of good feedback about our club. Thanks to Coordinator Julian Cooke and RO Simon Chapman and to all the race and Duty teams. Well done Chew sailors Giles Griffiths 14th, and Ellie, Abi and Matthew, their first open meeting I believe, and it was pretty breezy!
